As one of the main available scholarships, the Mahapola scholarship is given to selected students. The process is principally handled by the University Grants Commission and the criteria too are decided by them.
Mahapola Scholarship Trust Fund, affiliated to the Ministry of Trade and Consumer Affairs, prepares payment registers and makes decisions on all matters related to payments. It consists of ten installments per academic year. Students are informed via public notice by the welfare division about the dates on which these installments will be paid.
Conditions of the Mahapola Scholarship
- The scholarship recipient will receive the monthly installment on the recommendation of the University depending on the progress of the academic activities.
- A maximum of 10 installments for an academic year will be paid for the duration of the course.
- In order to be eligible for the receipt of installments, students should be engaged in fulltime courses and those who do not attend courses will not be eligible to receive monthly installments.
- If a student fails to obtain an installment, it will be considered as an abandoned installment and such installments will not be paid again.
- After accepting the scholarship it will not be possible to change the course and it will not be possible to receive any other scholarship or bursary.
- If a scholarship recipient changes the course, or cease to follow the course, such reasons will lead to the cancellation of the scholarship.
- If it is necessary to postpone the course, permission should be obtained for this purpose. Permission will be granted for a maximum of one year’s postponement.
- It is necessary to attend lectures, tutorials and practicals and if not, the payment of installments will be stopped and action will be taken accordingly.
- Increase of income as a result of getting employment or engaging in business will also result in the discontinuation of the payment of installments.
- The final decision on scholarships and payment of installments rests with the Mahapola Trust Fund.

මහපොල ශිෂ්‍යත්වය සඳහා අයදුම් කරන ආකාරය
ප්‍රධාන ශිෂ්‍යත්වයක් ලෙස, මහපොල ශිෂ්‍යත්වය තෝරාගත් සිසුන්ට ලබා දෙනු ලැබේ. මෙම ක්‍රියාවලිය ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් විශ්වවිද්‍යාල ප්‍රතිපාදන කොමිෂන් සභාව විසින් හසුරුවනු ලබන අතර නිර්ණායකයන්ද ඔවුන් විසින් තීරණය කරනු ලැබේ.
වාණිජ හා පාරිභෝගික කටයුතු අමාත්‍යංශයට අනුබද්ධිත මහපොල ශිෂ්‍යත්ව භාර අරමුදල, ගෙවීම් ලේඛන සකස් කර ගෙවීම් වලට අදාළ සියලු කරුණු පිළිබඳව තීරණ ගනී. එය අධ්‍යයන වර්ෂයකට වාරික දහයකින් සමන්විත වේ. මෙම වාරිකයන් ගෙවනු ලබන දිනයන් පිළිබඳව සුභසාධන අංශය විසින් පොදු දැන්වීමක් මගින් සිසුන්ට දැනුම් දෙනු ලැබේ.
මහපොල ශිෂ්‍යත්වයේ කොන්දේසි
- ශිෂ්‍යත්වලාභියා විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ නිර්දේශය මත අධ්‍යයන කටයුතුවල ප්‍රගතිය මත මාසික වාරිකය ලබා ගනු ඇත.
- අධ්‍යයන වර්ෂයකට උපරිම වශයෙන් වාරික 10ක් පාඨමාලාවේ කාලසීමාව සඳහා ගෙවනු ලැබේ.
- වාරික ලැබීමට සුදුසුකම් ලැබීම සඳහා සිසුන් පූර්ණකාලීන පාඨමාලාවල නිරත විය යුතු අතර පාඨමාලා සඳහා සහභාගී නොවන අය මාසික වාරික ලැබීමට සුදුසුකම් නොලබයි.
- සිසුවෙකු වාරිකයක් ලබා ගැනීමට අසමත් වේ නම්, එය අත්හැර දමන ලද වාරිකයක් ලෙස සලකනු ලබන අතර එවැනි වාරික නැවත ගෙවනු නොලැබේ.
- ශිෂ්‍යත්වය භාරගැනීමෙන් පසු පාඨමාලාව වෙනස් කිරීමට හැකියාවක් නොමැති අතර වෙනත් ශිෂ්‍යත්වයක් හෝ ශිෂ්‍යාධාරයක් ලබා ගැනීමට හැකියාවක් නොමැත.
- ශිෂ්‍යත්වලාභියෙකු පාඨමාලාව වෙනස් කරන්නේ නම්, හෝ පාඨමාලාව හැදෑරීම නවතා දමන්නේ නම්, එවැනි හේතු ශිෂ්‍යත්වය අවලංගු කිරීමට හේතු වනු ඇත.
- පාඨමාලාව කල් දැමීමට අවශ්‍ය නම්, මේ සඳහා අවසරය ලබා ගත යුතුය. උපරිම වශයෙන් වසරක කල් දැමීමක් සඳහා අවසර ලබා දෙනු ඇත.
- දේශන, ප්‍රායෝගික සහ අභ්‍යාස සඳහා සහභාගී වීම අවශ්‍ය වන අතර එසේ නොමැති නම්, වාරික ගෙවීම නවතා දමනු ලබන අතර ඒ අනුව ක්‍රියා කරනු ඇත.
- රැකියාවක් ලබා ගැනීම හෝ ව්‍යාපාරයක නිරත වීම හේතුවෙන් ආදායම වැඩිවීම ද වාරික ගෙවීම නැවැත්වීමට හේතු වනු ඇත.
- ශිෂ්‍යත්ව සහ වාරික ගෙවීම් පිළිබඳ අවසන් තීරණය මහපොල භාර අරමුදල සතුව පවතී.
